5 Must Haves for Writers by Isabelle Hardesty

Writing is a journey. Here are some essentials you may find useful.

    • Take frequent breaks. Allow yourself the same luxury you would suggest to a loved one. Give your mind a break.  It’s good for your computer weary eyes and great for your brain.
    • A cup of hot anything. If you are like many writers, by the time you remember and reach for your cup, it may be cold. No, worries, you can make more.
    • A support system that cheers you on. It may be on Twitter, Facebook or in person, but writing is difficult. Many writers enjoy @LitRejections on Twitter. They’ve kept thousands of writers motivated.
    • Nothing time. You may wash dishes or sit and be still. This is a perfect way for plot kinks to work themselves out while you aren’t looking at the problem directly.
    • A chair that’s good for your back. It may not be the most beautiful or even the newest chair, but it should be comfortable.  A quick fix can be to use a small pillow or rolled-up blanket to support your back in the right way.

The Takeaway…

Let’s remember to enjoy the process of writing by being gentle with ourselves. Creativity doesn’t have to hurt.  Find what works for you.
